About Brive
Brive is a fine-grained grey slate sourced from France, known for its subtle veining and consistent texture. The stone displays a muted grey palette with occasional darker streaks, giving it a sophisticated, understated elegance. Its natural durability and resistance to moisture make it ideal for both interior and exterior applications, including flooring, wall cladding, and countertops. Brive can be finished in a polished, honed, or brushed texture, each enhancing its subtle tonal variations. Marmi di Carrara supplies Brive in ready-to-install slabs of 2–3 cm thickness, as well as custom-cut blocks, and provides high-resolution photographs of actual slabs before purchase to ensure accurate selection.
Typically grey slate.

Finishes for Brive
Honed
Smooth and matt, with a soft satin look. Hides small scratches and etching better than a polish and is safer underfoot.
Brushed
Worked with abrasive brushes for a slightly undulating, silky surface that follows the grain of the stone. Warm to the touch and easy to live with.
Natural cleft
The stone is split along its natural layers and left as it is: a lively, riven surface with excellent grip.
Care and maintenance
- Clean with water and a neutral detergent; hard stones tolerate everyday use very well.
- Sealing is quick and recommended on light colours and on honed, leathered or flamed finishes.
- Avoid waxes and film-forming products that leave a layer on the surface.
- Outdoors, an occasional wash with a pressure cleaner at moderate pressure restores the colour.
- Hot pans, knives and frost are not a problem for most stones of this family; use trivets anyway to protect sealers.
