About Akbarred Slate

Akbarred Slate is a natural grey slate quarried in India. The stone displays a uniform, fine grain with occasional subtle veining that adds depth without compromising its sleek appearance. Its robust nature makes it ideal for flooring, wall cladding, outdoor paving and landscape applications. The stone works well with honed, brushed or polished finishes, each highlighting its natural texture. Finishes for Akbarred Slate

Honed

Smooth and matt, with a soft satin look. Hides small scratches and etching better than a polish and is safer underfoot.

Brushed

Worked with abrasive brushes for a slightly undulating, silky surface that follows the grain of the stone. Warm to the touch and easy to live with.

Natural cleft

The stone is split along its natural layers and left as it is: a lively, riven surface with excellent grip.

Care and maintenance

  • Clean with water and a neutral detergent; hard stones tolerate everyday use very well.
  • Sealing is quick and recommended on light colours and on honed, leathered or flamed finishes.
  • Avoid waxes and film-forming products that leave a layer on the surface.
  • Outdoors, an occasional wash with a pressure cleaner at moderate pressure restores the colour.
  • Hot pans, knives and frost are not a problem for most stones of this family; use trivets anyway to protect sealers.
