About Dovre

Dovre is a premium natural slate quarried in Norway, renowned for its refined grey palette and impeccable structural homogeneity. Sourced from deep Scandinavian deposits, this metamorphic stone exhibits a tight, fine-grained texture with a natural cleft finish that enhances its authentic character. Its elegant, uniform grey tones offer a versatile aesthetic suitable for both contemporary and traditional architectural projects. Dovre slate is ideal for flooring, wall cladding, roofing, and outdoor paving due to its durability and slip resistance. Available in various thicknesses, it can be finished with a natural split, tumbled, or honed surface to suit specific design needs. Marmi di Carrara supplies Dovre slate as raw blocks, precision-cut slabs in 2 and 3 cm thicknesses, and custom cut-to-size pieces. We provide detailed photos of actual slabs before purchase to ensure perfect color and texture matching for your project.

Finishes for Dovre

Honed

Smooth and matt, with a soft satin look. Hides small scratches and etching better than a polish and is safer underfoot.

Brushed

Worked with abrasive brushes for a slightly undulating, silky surface that follows the grain of the stone. Warm to the touch and easy to live with.

Natural cleft

The stone is split along its natural layers and left as it is: a lively, riven surface with excellent grip.

Care and maintenance

  • Clean with water and a neutral detergent; hard stones tolerate everyday use very well.
  • Sealing is quick and recommended on light colours and on honed, leathered or flamed finishes.
  • Avoid waxes and film-forming products that leave a layer on the surface.
  • Outdoors, an occasional wash with a pressure cleaner at moderate pressure restores the colour.
  • Hot pans, knives and frost are not a problem for most stones of this family; use trivets anyway to protect sealers.
