About Champenay

Champenay is a versatile grey stone sourced from France, known for its subtle veining and fine grain that lends a sophisticated, understated elegance to any space. The stone’s natural grey hue ranges from light ash to deeper charcoal, offering a neutral palette that complements both contemporary and traditional designs. Its moderate porosity and fine texture make it ideal for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, and interior wall cladding, while its durability ensures it can withstand heavy foot traffic in commercial settings. Marmi di Carrara supplies Champenay in high-quality blocks and 2–3 cm slabs, ready for custom cutting to size. Clients can view authentic slab photographs before purchase, ensuring the material meets their exact aesthetic requirements.

Typically grey.

Finishes for Champenay

Polished

Mirror-like gloss that brings out colour and veining at full depth. The classic choice for walls, tops and interior floors; slippery when wet.

Honed

Smooth and matt, with a soft satin look. Hides small scratches and etching better than a polish and is safer underfoot.

Brushed

Worked with abrasive brushes for a slightly undulating, silky surface that follows the grain of the stone. Warm to the touch and easy to live with.

Care and maintenance

  • Clean with water and a neutral detergent made for natural stone; rinse and dry.
  • Avoid acids and descalers (vinegar, lemon, anti-limescale sprays): they etch calcite and dull a polished surface.
  • Seal with an impregnating protector after laying and repeat when water no longer beads, typically every 1–3 years on tops.
  • Wipe wine, coffee, oil and citrus juice straight away, especially on kitchen and vanity tops.
  • A dulled or scratched surface can be re-honed or re-polished on site: the stone is the same through its whole thickness.
