About Grissal

Grissal is a fine-grained, biotitic granite sourced from Spain, distinguished by its subtle light grey hue and irregular fracture pattern. The stone exhibits a medium grain size with a hypidiomorphic granular texture, giving it a refined, understated appearance suitable for both interior and exterior applications. Its durability and resistance to weathering make it ideal for high-traffic floors, countertops, cladding, and architectural facades. Grissal can be finished in polished, honed, or brushed surfaces, allowing designers to achieve a range of aesthetic effects. Marmi di Carrara supplies Grissal in ready-to-use blocks, 2–3 cm slabs, and custom cut-to-size pieces, and provides photographic references of actual slabs before purchase to ensure accurate selection.

Compact light grey rock with irregular fracture. Biotitic adamellitic granite with hypidiomorphic granular texture and medium grain size.

Finishes for Grissal

Polished

Mirror-like gloss that brings out colour and veining at full depth. The classic choice for walls, tops and interior floors; slippery when wet.

Honed

Smooth and matt, with a soft satin look. Hides small scratches and etching better than a polish and is safer underfoot.

Leathered

A brushed texture on hard stones: matt, lightly textured and very good at hiding fingerprints and water marks on worktops.

Bush-hammered

A rough, pitted surface made with a toothed hammer. Maximum slip resistance for exterior paving, ramps and steps.

Flamed

A thermal finish that makes the crystals burst and leaves a rough, non-slip surface. The standard for exterior granite.

Care and maintenance

  • Clean with water and a neutral detergent; hard stones tolerate everyday use very well.
  • Sealing is quick and recommended on light colours and on honed, leathered or flamed finishes.
  • Avoid waxes and film-forming products that leave a layer on the surface.
  • Outdoors, an occasional wash with a pressure cleaner at moderate pressure restores the colour.
  • Hot pans, knives and frost are not a problem for most stones of this family; use trivets anyway to protect sealers.
