About Columkille

Columkille is a premium quartzite sourced from the quarries of Ireland, offering a distinct alternative to traditional marbles. Its dominant white colour provides a clean, bright aesthetic suitable for contemporary and classic interiors. The stone features a fine to medium grain with a consistent texture, lacking the dramatic veining found in other natural stones, which allows for versatile application. It is ideal for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, flooring, and wall cladding. Suitable finishes include polished, honed, and brushed, enhancing its natural durability and slip resistance. At Marmi di Carrara, we supply Columkille quartzite in blocks, slabs of 2cm and 3cm thickness, and custom cut-to-size pieces. We provide detailed photos of actual slabs before purchase to ensure precision and satisfaction for architects and designers.

This natural stone is a quartzite originating from Ireland, characterized by a predominantly white colour and a granular texture.

Finishes for Columkille

Polished

Mirror-like gloss that brings out colour and veining at full depth. The classic choice for walls, tops and interior floors; slippery when wet.

Honed

Smooth and matt, with a soft satin look. Hides small scratches and etching better than a polish and is safer underfoot.

Leathered

A brushed texture on hard stones: matt, lightly textured and very good at hiding fingerprints and water marks on worktops.

Care and maintenance

  • Clean with water and a neutral detergent; hard stones tolerate everyday use very well.
  • Sealing is quick and recommended on light colours and on honed, leathered or flamed finishes.
  • Avoid waxes and film-forming products that leave a layer on the surface.
  • Outdoors, an occasional wash with a pressure cleaner at moderate pressure restores the colour.
  • Hot pans, knives and frost are not a problem for most stones of this family; use trivets anyway to protect sealers.
