About Leopard

Leopard is a red marble quarried in Turkey, also traded as Aphrodite Pink, Roalte Afrodit or Salome. Its white to pale background is crossed by red and yellow veins, knots and clouded zones, giving each slab a lively, spotted appearance that inspired the name. The medium-grained calcite structure lends the stone a warm, decorative character suited to feature walls, flooring, bathroom cladding, staircases and interior design details. Polished and honed finishes enhance its colour contrasts, while brushed or leathered surfaces suit more tactile projects. Marmi di Carrara supplies Leopard marble as blocks, slabs in 2 and 3 cm thicknesses and cut-to-size pieces, with photos of the actual slabs sent before purchase.

This marble typically shows a cataclastic texture, with red-yellow veins, knots and zones on a white background. It consists of calcite minerals of varying grain size, from about 0.19 to 1.90 mm, forming bands, with visible shattering and traces of quartz and sericite.

Finishes for Leopard

Polished

Mirror-like gloss that brings out colour and veining at full depth. The classic choice for walls, tops and interior floors; slippery when wet.

Honed

Smooth and matt, with a soft satin look. Hides small scratches and etching better than a polish and is safer underfoot.

Leathered

A brushed texture on hard stones: matt, lightly textured and very good at hiding fingerprints and water marks on worktops.

Bush-hammered

A rough, pitted surface made with a toothed hammer. Maximum slip resistance for exterior paving, ramps and steps.

Flamed

A thermal finish that makes the crystals burst and leaves a rough, non-slip surface. The standard for exterior granite.

Care and maintenance

  • Clean with water and a neutral detergent; hard stones tolerate everyday use very well.
  • Sealing is quick and recommended on light colours and on honed, leathered or flamed finishes.
  • Avoid waxes and film-forming products that leave a layer on the surface.
  • Outdoors, an occasional wash with a pressure cleaner at moderate pressure restores the colour.
  • Hot pans, knives and frost are not a problem for most stones of this family; use trivets anyway to protect sealers.
